Shine Virtual Race

Hercules are extremely proud to support Shine’s up and coming virtual balloon race.

Who Are Shine?

Shine provides specialist support from before birth and throughout the life of anyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff. Shine enables people to get the best out of life.

When is the race?

Hercules continue to support the charities virtual balloon races and has two up and coming events:

3rd January – Benny Bear New Year Balloon Race

Benny Bear New Year Balloon Race, sponsored by Larkfleet Homes and Allison Homes, will raise precious funds to support over 1,300 children aged 0-8 years. Most of the children are born severely disabled and during childhood will go through multiple surgical procedures aimed at giving them a better quality of life.

Benny is Shine’s mascot and a bear who himself has hydrocephalus. The children love the idea of a bear just like them. Members of his Club receive a certificate and replica cuddly bear upon joining and are kept up to date with Benny’s adventures via Benny’s Blog (www.bennysblog.co.uk). Benny also produces books about his stays in hospital and day- to-day school life.

6th February – Shine’s Race for Carers

The role of the carer is vital to the welfare of Shine’s members and can range greatly, from expert day to day care , to ensuring that they are able to leave the house in order to shop or attend important hospital meetings, amongst many other things.

Shine offers support to approximately 9,000 people who care for those living with spina bifida/hydrocephalus.
